Vacancy for a parish councillor

We're one short

News post header for a new councillor to join Hatley Parish Council, 2026.

Hatley Parish Council has a vacancy for a parish councillor.

The council comprises five members.

But right now there are only four councillors: Samantha Abbasi (chair), Micky Astor (vice-chair), Harold Nickerson and Al Smith, our newest councillor – sharing the work of five among four puts a tremendous burden on them and Kim Wilde, the parish clerk.

So…

  • Do you enjoy living in Hatley?
  • Do you want to make a difference?
  • Do you wish to serve your community?
  • Do you want to help shape the future of Hatley?
  • Would you like to provide a voice for residents?
  • Are you interested in local current affairs?
  • Do the challenges of being a councillor appeal to you?
  • If yes, then JOIN THE PARISH COUNCIL!

The post is unpaid and the term of office will run until the next election in May 2030.

As a parish councillor you would be expected to attend parish council meetings, which are held at least four times a year.

To be considered for the vacancy you must be…

  • Aged 18 or over.
  • An elector.
  • A resident or worker based within three miles of the parish during the past year.

and help make a difference

Micky Astor, vice-chairman of the council, says: “In this time when autocracy is challenging democracy around world, it is even more important individuals contribute to our democratic process.

“Standing for the Parish Council does just that – it gives you a chance to help steer our immediate community as we all face the climate and energy crisis and a glimpse into how local government works.

“With the help of experienced members on the council, carrying out the role need not be an alarming or time-consuming process for a new councillor.

“Your community needs the invigoration of new – and especially younger people – on its council, so, please, seriously consider putting yourself forward to becoming a member.”

How to apply

Contact Kim Wilde, the parish clerk, by email – clerk@hatley-pc.gov.uk – for more information about the role or to request an application form.

  • A completed application form must be submitted to the parish clerk no later than 5.00 pm on Monday, 12 October 2026.

Applications will be formally received and considered by the council at its Ordinary Meetings, due to be held at 7.00 pm on Tuesday, 20th October 2026 in Hatley village hall.

The meeting will temporarily close to the public while a decision is reached by the council to co-opt a new member.

We look forward to hearing from you.
