30 mph is coming to Hatley St George

Consultation over – implementation date awaited

The 40 mph speed sign in Hatley St George – should the limit be reduced to 30 mph?

In August, Cambridgeshire County Council’s highways department published its proposal to reduce the speed limit through Hatley St George from 40 mph to 30 mph.

Its rationale was to ‘promote lower vehicle speeds and create a safer environment for all road users’.

The council feels lowering the existing 40 mph speed limit to 30 mph through the built-up length of Main Street, Hatley St George is wholly appropriate…

…But, the remaining length of 40 mph limit from the village hall through East Hatley would be unchanged – that length of road is less built-up and a 40 mph speed limit is considered to be more suitable.

‘The existing 30 mph speed limit on East Hatley (cul-de-sac extending south-westwards off Main Street) would not change.’

Cambs Highways consultation closed on Monday, 23rd September 2024.

A date for making the change is yet to be announced – assuming it is going to happen.
