It’s almost 18 months since the people running East West Rail (EWR) had a consultation about the proposed passenger rail line from Cambridge to Oxford.
Last time it was about the route at our end; the map above and left shows the ‘final’ route – click on it for a larger image (taken from EWR’s website).
- Here’s a useful article from the BBC: What is happening with East West Rail?.
Although the section between Bedford and Cambridge has been designated as a project of national significance, one has to wonder whether the cost (to taxpayers) and effort of this non-statutory consultation will have any bearing on any aspect of the why, how and when of the new line – and how much freight traffic it will carry.
- This link for everything about the consultation – which runs until 24th January 2025.
- And this link will take you directly to the list of all the ‘In person events’ – and if you scroll down a little, the two online events scheduled for 10th December and 9th January.

In addition, there are roadshows, listed below, to give us the opportunity to quiz officials and other ways of ‘becoming involved’ detailed on the PDF, below – click on it for an A4 copy.
